Dick Block is a scenic designer based in Pittsburgh, PA.

His work has been seen at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, The Human Race Theatre in Dayton, O., Virginia Stage, James Madison University, the Warehouse Theatre in Greeenville, SC., Short North Theatre in Columbus, the McCarter Theatre and others. 

 

He has been on the faculty in the School of Drama since 1988 and has served as the Associate Head of the School since 2002.  He has also taught at Cornell University, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and in Flint and Ashland University.

 

Dick has been a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829 since 1980.  He has been active in USITT for over three decades, during which he served as Co-Commissioner of the Scene Design Commission for 6 years and served on and chaired numerous panels.  He was the co-coordinator of the Young Designers’ Forum for several years.  Also active for years in the KC American College Theatre Festival, serving as Region II Design Chair and the first National Design Chair. 

 

Dick is the co-author of record for the book, Scene Design and Stage Lighting.

 

Dick received his MFA in Scenic Design from Northwestern University.
